The last 3 weeks have pretty much been a blur due to a heavier than usual work load. I’ve been so wiped out when I get home that I haven’t even wanted to pick up my laptop. (Not that I haven’t been online. I just haven’t spent much time at it.) In fact, I haven’t been as attentive to politics or any news really. Here a few things that were on my radar these last weeks.
1) The kidnapped little girl, Jaycee Dugard, being found after 18 years. I had 2 step-cousins who were kidnapped by their crazy father when they were small. It took almost 3 years to find them. They were found living in an attic in Seattle, WA. They had been blonde and so cute. When we found them their dad had dyed their hair brown, hadn’t put them in school, and rarely let them out of the attic. I don’t remember how much jail time their dad got.
2) My love for fountain pens continues to grow. I’m too poor for it to turn into an obsession, which is probably a good thing. I used to collect pens, which started in ninth grade. I had so many at one point I think my parents thought I was going to open an office supply store in my room. The fountain pens I currently use are both Lamy Safari’s, one pink and one red. I’m also attached to the disposable Preppy fountain pens. They write really well for a disposable. I try not to visit JetPens more than once a day. I have found The Fountain Pen Network very entertaining and helpful.
3) Song that’s on while I type: Immigrant Song by Led Zepplin. Who could forget Robert Plant’s nasally vocals on this song? Dave Richards reminds Harold & I of Robert Plant for some reason. And yes, I have told Dave that. He laughed uproariously. I think Dave was just being polite in that British way of laughing but really thinking I was off my rocker.
4) Last book I read: The Blue Book of Grammar & Punctuation. This is what I’ll be using in my class for our Grammar Slam month which starts tomorrow. I gave them the choice of doing grammar twice a week for infinity or doing it 5 days a week for a month. Kinda like grammar boot camp. I was surprised they chose that option. Personally, I hate teaching grammar but I love them so much I’m willing to suffer so they can become literate in the English language.
5) What I really need to be doing right now: getting the house tidied up. Our wonderful friend from Denmark, Frank, is coming over this evening. We get to see him usually twice a year so the time w. him and his lovely wife Bettina (who was unable to make this trip) is very precious to us.
OK. Time to get up and clean. Have a good rest of the weekend.
