Wow! I haven't posted since July 15th! Time flies. So what have I been doing?
1) Harold & I hosted a worship leaders retreat in Kansas City. We had a great time. The retreat was technically only 2 days but for us it turned into 5. We got there on Wednesday to prepare for the next day and we didn't leave until Sunday afternoon. People had come from as far away as Fresno, CA and Raleigh, NC so some of them hung around and so we hung with them. It was nice to get some extra time with people we don't see very often.
2) We went to Pittsburg, KS to hold a songwriting clinic. That was just a 3 day trip but it was a 6 hr drive both ways. Oh, and it was 104 degrees and 100% humidity. Harold's gel deodorant and my eyeliner pencil actually melted!
3) We have had an insane time trying to get Evan situated. His summer program ended on Aug. 1st. Every time we made a plan (which always involved several meetings w. various agencies) something would fall through or funding would get cut. We had him all set to work on a janitorial crew at a place that employs mainly people with intellectual disabilities, but when he went for the interview we found out the state had cut the funding. He came home bummed out because he had really wanted to work there. We finally, on Aug. 1 (or D-Day), got him into the sheltered workshop for the time being. He is assembling respirator masks. I have had major emotional issues with this, but am slowly adjusting. The place is great, the people are kind and Evan is enjoying it but a little bored with having to do the same thing every day. He does know a couple of people there so that's good.
4) Our church held a teacher's conference for 5 churches we are in relationship with. That was last Monday-Wednesday. We all had an awesome time, learned and ate a lot, and God really met us there. We had about 50 teachers.
After all the above, I took last Thursday & Friday off to sleep and clean house. And now I'm in the middle of:
5) Getting ready for school to start. Our teachers came back yesterday so our secretary & I have had lots to do to make sure they all have what they need to start the school year. It always feels so chaotic but in a good we're-getting- a lot-done way. School starts next Wednesday which means I will have to be ready to start my Language Arts class. Fortunately I made it through most of the books I wanted to read this summer and feel somewhat prepared.
Oh,and I'm
6) Trying desperately to carve out time to work on a novel. I've started taking my laptop & going to McDonald's to write so I won't be distracted or pulled on. I just turn on my music, plug my earphones in and go at it. They haven't kicked me out but I always buy something.
So there you have it, the story of my last month. Hopefully I haven't bored you into a coma! If you want to keep up with my daily goings on for some strange reason, I can be found on Facebook.
Hope everyone's summer is ending well. Talk to you soon!
